Jesus Makes The Wicked Zaccheus
As Jesus passed through Jericho a man named Zaccheus, who was the chief
tax-gatherer and rich, tried to see what Jesus was like, but could not
on account of the crowd and because he was short. So he ran ahead and
climbed into a sycamore-tree to see Jesus, for he was to pass that way.
When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zaccheus,
come down, for to-day I must stay at your house." And Zaccheus came down
quickly and welcomed him joyfully.
Then all who saw this began to find fault, saying, "He has gone to eat
with a man who is a sinner." But Zaccheus stood up and said to Jesus,
"Lord, I will give half of all that I have to the poor; and to every man
whom I have cheated out of anything I will give back four times as
much." And Jesus said to him, "To-day salvation has come to this house,
for you have proved yourself to be a true son of Abraham. For the Son of
Man came to seek and to save the lost."
